The ‘Baddest’ of the Badlands

Our hiking today can only be described as ‘otherworldly’.  The first one took us up and over a pinnacle ridge to an open prairie.  It was a difficult climb and really strange to find a flat plateau at the top…not what we were expecting.  The sights overlooking the valley below were outstanding.  We had climbed so far that our truck looked like a ‘Tonka Toy’ far below us.

Our 2nd hike took us into the ‘baddest of the badlands, at least that is how the sign described the strange rock formations.  Hopefully the pictures can show how desolate this area really is.  Life should not be able to exist here…but we got to see some big horn sheep on the cliffs above us…they looked right at home…amazing!

Today was also really hot.  It is humid and in the mid 30’s.  It reminds us of our travels through Louisiana…not necessarily a good thought.  We are sitting here at our campsite covered in sweat but enjoying a ‘cold’ one…Life is Good!

Distance Traveled = 127 km.  Wildlife Sightings = Rock Wren, Robin, Meadowlark, Turkey Vulture, Flicker, Big Horn Sheep.
