Avoiding Salt Lake City
Last evening, we had a scary experience…it was weather
related. It had been a beautiful day,
the temperature was hovering around 30 degrees with a slight breeze blowing,
quite comfortable. Within about 10 minutes,
the temperature dropped about 15 degrees and the slight breeze turned into a
gale force wind. We suspect that the
gusts were blowing in the 60 to 70 mph range.
We sat in the tent trailer holding it down…hoping and praying…well maybe
not a lot of the latter…that the tent trailer would hold together. An hour later the wind subsided just as
quickly as it had come up. The strange
part was, despite the wind and the look of the sky, only about 10 drops of rain
fell. The tent trailer seems to have
weathered the storm okay.
Our destination today was just south of Brigham City, Salt
Lake City was in the road. We solved
that by heading east out through Provo Canyon.
We are glad that we did. Sue’s
instincts for finding waterfalls was dead on and so was our luck. Bridal Vale Falls is just outside of
Provo. Half of Provo, we think, was out
there today. The parking, as we have found
several times on this adventure, is less than adequate. We lucked into a parking spot…30 seconds
earlier or 30 seconds later and we would have been driving on down the road
with only a passing glance at this amazing Falls.
Sue’s route was a fun drive up a canyon over a mountain pass
and down a valley to our destination the Brigham City KOA. This is a well treed campground, but the
sites are tightly packed together. I am
sitting at the picnic table looking at the side of our neighbours trailer that
is about 6 feet away. One thing about
KOA’s, people spend all their time inside their rigs so do not bother us…hard
to understand.
Distance Traveled = 216 km.
Wildlife Sightings = Magpie, Great-tailed Grackle, Mourning Dove, House
Sparrow, Western Kingbird, California Quail, Canada Geese, American White
Pelican.
