Texas Drivers Must Be Superior to us Mere Mortals
So far in Texas we have experienced 3 radically different
regions. Yesterday we traveled through
East Texas. It was primarily rolling
hills and forest.
Today we traveled through Central Texas and we saw what we
had Texas pictured like. The central
area is fairly flat with ranch after ranch after ranch. We passed thousands and thousands of acres of
fenced pastureland. They do not screw
around. Most of their fences were metal
posts and bars. Some of the pastureland
looked like scrub land, some looked green and lush. Very few buildings could be seen from the
highway. However, each entrance had
elaborate gates. We were unable to take
pictures because of the traffic and the insane speed limits…more later.
We then entered West Texas.
Anyone who thinks that Texas is flat would be wrong. Highway 84 through the gut of Texas is hilly. What did not change was the thousands and
thousands of acres of ranch land. It looked
to be of a poorer quality but that probably just means that they have to graze
more acres. Any cattle that we saw looked
good, even the Texas Longhorns.
We then came upon a county that advertised itself as the
largest ‘meat goat’ producers in all of the USA. Sure enough, that is all we saw for a
while. This sure did not fit our image
of Texas!
Today was along day.
We realized this morning at about 8:30 while still sitting and drinking
coffee that we had miscalculated our distance.
We had a KOA booked in Abeline so were committed to getting here. Yes, we are in another KOA. We did not plan for this to be a KOA tour of
the USA but if you saw the ‘welts’ that we have all over us from insect bites,
you would understand our aversion to State Parks right now. They are nice but unbearable to sit out at
all. The bugs down here do not care if
you ‘slather’ ‘bug juice’ on or not!
So we are in Abeline Texas.
The KOA is located on the shoulder of Interstate 20…well maybe not right
on the shoulder but we sure can hear the truck noise.
Now for the title.
Yesterday when we entered Texas, we were a little bit surprised to see
the speed limit jump from 60 mph to 75 mph.
Now remember, we are driving on 2 lane roads. Yes, their roads have big wide shoulders but
really! I guess Texas drivers must be
better than us mere mortals!
