After 3 nights in the Las Vegas KOA it was time to move on.  We enjoyed our stay.  The Las Vegas KOA is not your typical KOA.  It actually has fairly decent size sites, gravel, and no pavement.  You did not have to be intimate with your camping neighbour.

When we set out on this adventure, the plan was to stay off of expressways.  Today we made an exception.  All but the last 35 km was on 4 lane highways.

We spent today at elevations well above 7000 feet.  The scenery was once again like nothing we have ever saw before.  After leaving Santa Fe, we headed northwest through Mesa land.  Mesa’s are “isolated flat top hills with steep sides”…thanks Google!  They are stunning land forms.  Once again, we hope our pictures can do them justice.

We are set up in Navajo Lake State Park.  It is located in the extreme northwest corner of New Mexico.  We are a ‘stones throw’ from Colorado.  Navajo Lake is only here because the San Juan River is dammed.  The road up to the Park climbs up the side of the dam.  You would have to drive this road to believe it.  The lake is a boater’s paradise.  Cigar boats, cabin cruisers, houseboats, and jet skis are plentiful.  You sure can tell that New Mexico has very few bodies of water to play on.  This lake is not that big!!!

Distance Traveled = 448 km.  Wildlife Sightings = Turkey Vultures, American Pipit, American Robin, Brewers Blackbird, Pinyon Jay, Canada Geese.  (You can tell we were driving expressways today!)
