Grand Canyon of the East

Monday May 13, 2019

‘Twits’ are keeping their record intact.  Two days on the road and 2 days raining.  I guess it does not matter to the ‘Gods of Rain’ that we are not on our bicycles.

We spent the day investigating/hiking in Letchworth State Park.  The park was named after William Pryor Letchworth, an industrialist, who in 1907 left 1000 acres and his estate to the New York State Park System.  It has grown to 14000 acres.  It advertises itself as the ‘Grand Canyon of the East’.  It is a beautiful park (probably more spectacular with a little sunshine) that has the Genesee River flowing through a deep gorge that splits the park in two.  Sue was a happy camper today and it had nothing to do with the camping conditions.  Her favourite thing in the world were in abundance today, waterfalls.  (Well maybe a close second to wine.)  We spent most of the day hiking to and photographing the 4 beautiful falls.  Pictures cannot do them justice.

We are moving further south tomorrow into Pennsylvania.

Distance Travelled = 99 km all in the Park.  Wildlife Sightings = Canada Geese, Turkey Vultures, Canada Warbler, Black Throated Blue Warbler, Catbird, Scarlet Tanagers, Baltimore Orioles, Chipping Sparrows, Red Tailed Hawk.
